RFA Team

WHO WE ARE

rfa architects is a boutique design studio located in Crows Nest, Sydney.

rfa started life as ‘Robert Ferguson Architects’ named after our founder who started the business in his living room in 1995. The current directors, Brian Hollis and Andrew Ip, joined soon after to form a small team that has now grown to around 20 architects and interior designers.

Although based in Sydney, we work across all states of Australia and internationally. Our clients range from local home-owners to multi-national corporate clients, many of whom have returned to us over time ready to embark on another design journey together.

Our studio is a beautifully crafted space designed by our interior design team; it provides an open, inspiring and fresh environment that fosters collaboration and creative thinking.

rfa is passionate about making beautiful, enduring buildings and spaces, and believes that the essence of good design is connecting people, places and communities. We value productive collaboration with our clients and the journey we take together to bring their project vision to life.

CENTRAL TO OUR SUCCESS IS OUR PEOPLE

Each member of our team brings an individual perspective and interests drawn from a diverse range of cultural and professional backgrounds. This diversity is what drives our creativity.

We are proud of our positive gender ratio, including those in senior positions, and our longest serving staff member, aside from the directors, has been with rfa for close to two decades. We promote industry support through student work experience placements and encourage our team members to grow professionally through participation in industry briefings and exposure to a diverse range of projects.

INNOVATIVE & COLLABORATIVE LEADERSHIP

BRIAN HOLLIS

Hailing from country NSW, Brian grew up around building and construction with his father who owned a building business. Playing with Tonka trucks and Lego, along with his love of the arts, naturally led Brian to a career in architecture. Nowdays you will find Brian at the beach on weekends with his wife and three young boys, managing a Nippers team or out on the water on the stand-up paddle board.

Brian has an acute eye for compliance, spatial relationships and functionality, and his experience across numerous industries brings a rich depth of knowledge to the business. He is integral to directing and leading early learning projects and large commercial, residential and mixed developments.

ANDREW IP

Growing up as a young child in Hong Kong and its iconic buildings, Andrew’s love of architecture started early. A favourite past time of Andrew’s is pouring through architectural blogs and Instagram posts and sharing his discoveries with the office. Andrew maintains an active outdoor lifestyle, often out on the weekends running or cycling with his two young children and wife, also an architect.

Andrew is the creative backbone of rfa architects; he has a keen eye for detail, pushes design boundaries and explores all possible creative options. Andrew primarily manages retail and corporate rollout projects and commercial and residential projects in the practice.
